The Pet
Portraits of
Bill Kincaid
Haute Dog: Spot
Bill Kincaid uses
bright colors and large canvases to create portraits of the most treasured
pets for prominent display in the home, office, and other locations. Bill is inspired by psychedelia, the art, the music, and
the experience in the late 1960's and also with surrealism and Pop Art, and
became a fan of Andy Warhol, Peter Max, Salvador Dali, and other less-known but
great genre artists. Bill's first professional art job was at 17 as a custom
motorcycle artist. The shop was called "Buzz's Psycles".
The atmosphere at Buzz's was perfect for creativity, "offbeat" to say
the least and certainly a good environment for Bill's interest in psychedelic
Pop. He painted custom motorcycles and precise restorations of classic British
iron such as the Triumph Bonneville.
After that, Bill worked for
twelve years making costumes, and drawing and painting costume designs and
various commercial graphics projects for Kincaid Entertainment Corporation.
Projects included props for numerous TV commercials, promotions, and industrial
films; board games, coloring books, and logos. Bill also created the puppets,
scenery and props for local childrens' television
shows "D.B.'s Delight" and "Gator Tales"
(both starring brother Doug), and remodeled sets for Six Flags St. Louis
attractions.
Bill attended art class at
the Washington University School of Fine Arts during this period, although not
an art major. After graduating from
